Robert A. (Bob) Davidson has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Arkansas Best Corporation since February 2006 and as a Director since December 2004. He also has been Chief Executive Officer of its largest subsidiary, ABF Freight System, Inc. since February 2003. ABF is one of North America’s largest and most successful less-than-truckload motor freight carriers, with 12,000 employees, 286 customer service facilities, and 2008 revenues of $1.8 billion. Previously, he also served at ABF’s President from February 2003 until July 2008 and Arkansas Best’s President and Chief Operating Officer from January 2005 until February 2006.
Mr. Davidson became ABF’s Vice President of Pricing in 1982 and, in 1997, added the title of ABF’s Vice President of Marketing to his duties in the company’s pricing area. He served in that dual role until January 2003. Mr. Davidson began his transportation career in 1972 with Arkansas Best’s Economic Analysis Department, the company’s internal management consulting group. He directed that department from 1979 until 1982.
Mr. Davidson holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas. Over the years he has been actively involved in leadership positions at several national trucking and transportation organizations as well as civic, charitable and educational organizations in northwest Arkansas. Bob and Jo, his wife of 34 years, have three children. Bob is a duplicate bridge Life Master and also enjoys golf, digital photography and travel.
