ATA developed a Model Agreement, released in June 2004, for use by truckload motor carriers in structuring their contractual relationships with shippers. The Model Agreement, freely available on ATA’s website, avoids legalese as much as possible, substituting plain English terms to help ensure that all parties understand their rights and obligations up front, thereby eliminating later disputes and unforeseen liabilities. The Model Agreement has been endorsed by the National Industrial Transportation League, which greatly enhances its acceptance by shippers.
