 Climate Change

Medium and heavy-duty trucks contribute around 5% of the nation’s greenhouse gases and the predominant greenhouse gas emitted from the trucking industry is CO2.  Congress and states are developing regulatory plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

ATA is actively engaged in state and federal activities and is heavily involved in current discussions regarding how the trucking industry will reduce its greenhouse gas output in both the short- and long-term.  To this end, ATA convened a Sustainability Task Force (STF) to review the progress being made by the trucking industry to address climate change and to recommend proactive measures that can be further taken.  The STF formally unveiled its plan and six recommendations in May of 2008.  The STF report will be used by ATA to advance our industry’s positions on Capitol Hill and in states.

ATA is currently assisting state trucking associations as climate change legislation is being advanced in their respective states.
