EPA’s 2007/2010 Diesel Engine Emissions Rule

This rule sets out an aggressive schedule for reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter in 2007 and 2010.  Because the rule requires new advancements in engine technologies, it is anticipated that the introduction of new engines in 2010 may impact fuel economy, routine vehicle maintenance, and operational costs.  Class 8 engine costs are expected to increase substantially in beginning in 2010 much like they did in 2007.  ATA’s broad-based industry task force continues to strategize on how to advance available opportunities to secure relief to mitigate a 2009 “pre-buy” as well as a 2010 “low-buy.”
