 Tolls

 

In 2006, ATA and the Virginia Trucking Association defeated a proposal to build tolled truck lanes on I-81 in VA.  Trucks would have been barred from using the existing toll-free lanes.  Many other states are considering Interstate tolls.  ATA has developed a manual designed to assist state trucking associations who are engaged in toll battles.  In September 2007, the Federal Highway Administration announced its first Corridors of the Future.  These Corridors are expected to be prime tolling candidates. Click here to continue...

 

 Privatization of Toll Roads

 

In response to a spate of interest in leasing toll facilities to private companies, including the lease of the Indiana Toll Road and Chicago Skyway, ATA’s Board voted in 2006 to oppose such schemes.  ATA’s policy states that ATA “strongly opposes the lease or sale of existing toll roads, bridges or tunnels to private parties.”   ATA’s Board of Directors established a 10-point policy on privatization for those cases in which toll facilities might end up in the hands of the private sector.
