ATA Files Comments on Proposed Revisions to Hazardous Materials Security Plan Requirements

On Nov. 3, 2008, ATA filed comments with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, supporting the adoption of a risk-based approach to hazardous materials transportation security by narrowing the list of hazardous materials that trigger the regulatory requirement to develop and maintain a written security plan.

Federal Excise Tax on Idle Reduction Devices Eliminated

 

With the issuance of the 2006 IRS ruling that purchasers of Auxiliary Power Units are liable for the federal excise tax on this equipment if installed within six months of placing a tractor into service, the ATA Legislative Office began two years of extensive meetings with the House and Senate to work to eliminate this tax. ATA v. Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach

ATA, with the support of its Intermodal Conference, has been fighting efforts by the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to reregulate the sector of the trucking industry that serves the ports.
ATA filed suit in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles to challenge specific concession requirements that the Los Angeles and Long Beach Ports included in their Clean Trucks Program, which the Ports began implementing on Oct. 1, 2008. Article Continued...
