In December 2007, FMCSA issued a proposed rule that would strengthen the requirements for entry-level driver training (ELDT). ATA is working diligently to modify the proposed rule through written comments, gaining membership input, meeting with other federal agencies, and interfacing with training institutions and industry partners. Given the number of issues and concerns raised by ATA and other organizations, FMCSA will not likely be able to move forward with a rule until early 2010.
