 Emergency Preparedness

In addition to our policy efforts, ATA works to ensure that the trucking industry is as well prepared to respond to any event under any circumstances as possible.  Disasters, either natural or man-made, will require heavy lifting from companies located outside of affected areas as well as efforts for companies whose operations have been affected to resume business as normal.  ATA works hand in hand with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other relevant government bodies to facilitate the trucking industry's recovery within an area and to bolster our industry's humanitarian response from outside.

IRS Tax Relief for Businesses Affected by Disasters

In a June 22, 2009 news release, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) advised businesses and individuals on how to prepare for a disaster.  Hurricane season runs June-October, and will cause many to experience hardships.  Although the IRS offers delayed tax payments for areas affected by disasters, taxes are still due.  The IRS suggests that businesses create backup electronic records, document valuables, update emergency plans, and double check their fiduciary bonds before a disaster strikes.  Businesses and individuals can also contact the IRS helpline at (866) 562-5227.

The IRS' Disaster Assistance and Emergency Relief webpage is also an excellent resource.
