Weight-Distance Taxes
Weight-distance taxes, or mileage taxes on trucks, are almost universally opposed by motor carriers, and weight-distance tax proposals tend to unite the industry in opposition as no other issue can do. Such taxes are unfair, burdensome, enormously expensive to enforce, administer, and comply with, and relatively easy to evade, even with fancy new technologies.
