TRUCK PAC’S MISSION
Truck PAC’s mission is to help elect candidates to Congress who understand the issues that impact our industry. All funds raised by Truck PAC go toward funding the campaigns of federal candidates. Truck PAC is bipartisan and determines a candidate’s eligibility for PAC funds based on their past legislative performance and policies regarding the trucking industry.
PAC 101
What is a PAC?
Under federal law, corporations are prohibited from using general treasury funds to make contributions in connection with federal elections. However, trade association PACs (Political Action Committees), such as Truck PAC, allow a corporation’s employees the opportunity to legally and ethically participate in federal election activities. Truck PAC is permitted to solicit contributions from a select group of its member company employees, but only after the member companies provide Truck PAC prior approval to do so. All funds raised by Truck PAC go toward supporting the campaigns of federal candidates.
Who can Truck PAC solicit?
Federal law only allows Truck PAC to solicit contributions from the management and executive personnel of ATA member companies. Prior to soliciting, Truck PAC must receive a signed authorization form from the company’s primary contact. Click Here to email Truck PAC staff to request an authorization form. Only the company’s primary contact may grant authorization for eligible employees within the company to participate and may provide such authorization to only one trade association per calendar year. PACs may receive up to $5,000 from an individual per year, and are limited to giving $5,000 to a candidate election.
How does Truck PAC pick the candidates it is going to support?
Truck PAC follows a list of criteria in determining the best candidates to support. These may include the type of committee the candidate is assigned to, their helpfulness in passing pro-trucking legislation, or if they owned or once were employed by a trucking company.
