VICS/ANSI Update

In re-launching the Information Technology & Logistics Council, ATA recognizes the importance of forming alliances with similarly related technical organizations. The Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Standards Association and the American National Standards Institute’s X12 Steering Committee are two of the most important groups that the new ITLC will be working closely with in the future. During this session, attendees learned of the technical projects within these two organizations that are of relevance to the motor carrier community and its suppliers.

Ramping Up for the New Automated Customs Environment

An aggressive roll-out schedule is planned to make e-Manifests mandatory at all land border crossings by the end of 2007. Carriers will be able to file an e-Manifest through the ACE Secure Data Portal or by using the services of a CBP-tested solution provider. Carriers may opt to use another party, such as customs brokers, border processing centers or other carriers, to file the e-Manifest. This session was a must-attend event for any IT manager or executive, as a panel of electronic customs practitioners shared their expertise.
