State Cargo Theft Legislation

With the passing of the USA Patriot Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 (the “Act”) in March of 2006, states will begin to amend their statutes to require the identification and reporting of cargo theft as a separate crime, as well as to impose the minimum penalties specified under the Act. 

As state legislatures convene and amend, we will provide links to such laws. 

The Attorney General’s deadline for insuring such reporting is accomplished is “by no later than December 31, 2006.”
