Founded in 1933, “ATA is a three-legged federation, consisting of the state trucking associations, the conferences, and the headquarters operations itself – which includes the ATA Councils. The organization’s name itself illustrates this: the American Trucking Associations – the ‘s’ emphasizes ATA’s plural nature.” Thus by virtue of the Federation, ATA and its affiliates represent the interests of nearly 37,000 trucking companies before the legislative, regulatory, and judiciary branches of state and federal government.
The ATA Federation members work in unison on a number of important programs in areas such as safety, image and outreach, as well as advocacy. These programs include America’s Road Team, “Call on Washington”, Good stuff. Trucks Bring It / Trucks Bring Life’s Essentials, National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and Share The Road. With the support of the Federation and the overall industry, these highly effective programs reach millions of highway users, policy makers, community leaders and news media – and make a difference.
