AttachmentAdvocacy & Government Affairs Luncheon – “Inside Washington”
Special Guest Speaker:
Brit Hume
Senior Political Analyst

It’s a new ballgame in Washington, D.C. – a Democratic Party sweep last November; a new President committed to government activism, higher taxes, card check, and cap and trade; renewed calls for sweeping health care reform; and much more. It has never been more important to stay ahead of the political curve, and there is no one better able to make sense of the Washington merry-go-round than FOX News Senior Political Analyst Brit Hume. In an era of advocacy journalism, Brit Hume remains committed to getting both sides of the story. A willingness to acknowledge tough issues and hard choices, make him one of the most respected and trusted figures in the media today. Attend the Advocacy & Government Affairs Luncheon for an insider’s analysis of today’s Washington scene.

The recent award by an Illinois jury of over $20 million against a major 3PL related to its brokering of a load should serve as a wake-up call. You probably thought 3PL stood for third party logistics, but it is beginning to stand for third party liability as well, as aggressive plaintiffs and trial lawyers continue their endless search for deep pockets. A recent series of decisions by courts and juries have found brokers responsible for the negligence of carriers with whom they have contracted. This threatens to add significantly to the costs, risks, and uncertainties of brokerage operations. Attend this session to learn what you can do to stay out of the danger zone.

You still need a driver in the cab, but onboard safety systems (OSS) are emerging as the next great advancement in highway safety. Industry is far ahead of the general public in adoption rates, but OSS have proved their worth in mitigating crashes, regardless of whether the truck or car is to blame. The issue, as always, is cost; in an intensely competitive industry – and especially during troubled economic times – the decision to invest is difficult without a clear understanding of the potential for return on investment. This session will feature the latest findings on emerging safety technologies, from carriers who have already deployed OSS. In addition, we have invited key agency representatives to share their views on the future of these systems in the regulatory environment. This is your opportunity to stay ahead of the curve on the newest in safety technology.
