Jose "Manny" Franco, a city driver for UPS Freight, has driven 1.5 million accident-free miles in his 20-year career as a professional truck driver and, in the process, has compiled an impressive record of safety. Because of his tireless efforts to positively represent both the team and the trucking industry since joining America’s Road Team, we’re climbing inside Manny’s cab to learn a little more about this exceptional driver.

Manny has worked to make the trucking industry better, from talking to fellow drivers about the importance of image and safety for the industry, to educating the motoring public about safe driving practices and the importance of trucks to the American economy. Just this month, he spoke to a seniors group at a luncheon in Phoenix about his career as a driver and work with the Road Team. After lunch he demonstrated to the attendees the blindspots around his truck and provided safety tips for highway driving. A video of Manny with attendees is available at:

Recently, Manny was in GlendaleAriz.,for the 8th annual Touch-A-Truck event at Glendale Community College. Manny had his tractor open for kids to get into the cab of a truck and see what it’s like to be a professional driver. In addition, he discussed with parents the importance of highway safety and the role of trucks in getting everything we depend on.

"Being an America’s Road Team Captain has been a dream," said Captain Manny Franco. "I have the opportunity to travel around the country teaching people how to be safe on our highways and helping to save lives. I am excited to keep working to spread the trucking industry’s message."

Manny is also involved with the truck driving championships, placing first in the four-axle division of the Arizona State Truck Driving Championships in 2006. In 2002, he placed first in the twins division of the US Foodservice Truck Rodeo. A video of Manny encouraging drivers to participate in the competition is available at:
