Steve Eckhoff, a local driver for Hogan Transports, has driven over 2.1 million accident-free miles in his 28 year career as a professional truck driver. Because of his millions of accident-free miles, and exciting work as an America’s Road Team Captain, ATA is highlighting Steve and the work that makes him such an exceptional driver.

Steve spends a few days a month talking to fellow drivers about the importance of image and safety for the industry, and educating the motoring public about safe driving practices and the importance the trucking industry. Steve has been very active the over the last few months, serving as the featured speaker at the Missouri Motor Carriers Safety Banquet, as well as the featured speaker at the Governor’s Safety and Health Conference in Missouri. Steve also facilitated a workshop at the Governor’s Safety and Health Conference on the topic of National Youth Traffic Safety Month for over 1,000 attendees.

Educating students on the importance of highway safety has been a particularly important mission for Steve. He has performed safety demonstration with his truck at Morgan County High School in Missouri for the entire student body, and brought his truck to Malta Bend Elementary School in Kentucky, where he explained to children the importance of safety on the road, how to stay out of truck blind spots and the necessity of wearing safety belts.

Being an America’s Road Team Captain is really an amazing experience,” said Captain Steve Eckhoff. “I’ve talked to everyone from lawmakers to students about highway safety. I think we really are improving the image of trucking and saving lives.”

Steve has been honored with resolutions recognizing his work in promoting highway safety in both the Missouri House of Representatives and Missouri State Senate. In 2007, Steve was a Truckload Carriers Association Company Driver of the Year nominee. Steve is also a Missouri State Highway Patrol Honorary Member.
