Mark Hassemer, Con-way Freight
Mark has been a professional truck driver for 36 years and has accumulated over 2.3 million accident-free miles. He is a city driver for Con-way Freight.
Several days each month, Mark speaks to the news media, schools, community groups, and industry and government officials about highway safety and the essentiality of the trucking industry.
Mark finished first at the Wisconsin Truck Driving Championships in 1983, 1984, 1987, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008, as well as being named the Wisconsin Grand Champion in 2003. He placed first in the pre-trip competition in 2003 at the Wisconsin Truck Driving Championships. Mark was named Rookie of the Year in 1983 and was the Four-Axle National Champion at the 2006 National Truck Driving Championships. Mark has received the Ray Newberry “Mr. Safety” Award in 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007. He was the March 2008 Wisconsin Driver of the Month and the September 1993 Wisconsin Driver of the Month. He was also the 2003 Yellow Driver of the Year for the Chicago region. He was a member of the 2004-2005 Yellow Road Team and a member of the 2006-2007 Wisconsin Road Team. He also served as a mentor for the 2007 team.
Mark and his wife, Mary Beth, reside in Whitelaw, Wis. They have a daughter. |
